Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the methods of determining the speed of traffic accidents with the aim of further increasing the reliability of determining the speed factor in road accidents. The set goal can be achieved by analyzing the circumstances of road accidents due to violation of the speed limit, as well as existing methods of reconstruction, examination of road accidents and determination of directions for their improvement. The publication notes that the rapid motorization of Ukraine has naturally led to the need to ensure road safety at a new modern level. It has been established that one of the effective measures to improve the road safety system is speed control. This, in turn, involves appropriate regulation of the permitted speeds. Determining the speed of vehicles helps to establish a causal link between the driver's actions and the accident. The analysis of the state of accidents on road transport in Ukraine, the most frequent types of road accidents and their causes, as well as the severity of the consequences of road traffic injuries showed that the most significant cause of road accidents with serious consequences and the death of people is the wrong choice of speed. The analysis of the listed methods for determining the speed parameters of the ATZ movement during a road accident allows us to conclude that the accuracy and validity of each of them largely depends on the correct selection of initial data related to the following factors: the circumstances of the road accident, the slowdown of the ATZ during emergency and working braking , coefficient of rolling resistance and adhesion, etc. In the reference literature, these data are noted with a fairly large range of dispersion of their values. It is concluded that the most significant cause of road accidents with serious consequences and deaths is the wrong choice of speed.
